Sew Much To Learn!

Bloomeneutics of Sewing - Knowledge

Knowledge - Gaining knowledge/awareness of sewing information.  Memorizing information but not necessarily fully understanding the material.

I joined sewing groups and several networks.  I purchased resource books and DVD’s.  I will post a picture of my library and sewing rooms as of Feb 2010.  In order for me to warm up to sewing, I joined Don McCunn’s patternmaking group.  I quickly jump right into Don's Intro to Patternmaking class.  Also at the same time, I start attending Penn Foster School and Stratford Career Institute for Dressmaking.  I made an A from both courses but did not fully comprehend it or understood why or how I should use the process.    This is acceptable because I will revisit all the information I learned, saw and read to interpret, evaluate to achieve an understanding.

Steps used to test knowledge are when, where, defined, describe and identify.  Keywords help to recall information are defines, describes, identifies, knows, labels, lists, matches, names, outlines, recalls, recognizes, reproduces, selects, states.

10)   Picking a skirt or dress commercial pattern.  I found that a skirt is easier to draft and sew than other garments.  I have a well fitted skirt  and top pattern I drafted and will use my master pattern to understand the commercial pattern.  - Not available

Next, Understanding in this level I will be read written books/literature and watch videos again slowly to get a better understanding.  I am not expected to be perfect but know how to retrieve information and use what I have learned.   Terms to test my knowledge is recognizes, summaries and paraphrase those things I have learned.

Photos of Sewing Rooms 2010

I like collecting commercial patterns of any size (preferably the correct size); maybe one day I will use one of them.

I have displayed flower pens, I created during my journey.  I really like the dual purpose of the pens.

The below pictures display My Sewing Room as of Feb 27, 2010

Going thru this process of looking at my resources, I found I had some duplicate books (boxed those books to give away)!

I purchased my books from Amazon.  I really feel strongly that these books should be a must have for any beginner's sewing room.  Resource book are base on personal choice and ability to purchase. Other alternative is to use the library and/or buy used books.
