Bloomeneutics of Sewing

The purpose of this article is to record my lessons learned as a sewer and present them in a logic order. I will apply the Bloom's Taxonomy and hermeneutics as a framework for my writings. Hermeneutics will be applied at the application level to interpret text, to provide a clearer understanding of the many terms used in the sewing community.
Bloom's Taxonomy
is a classification of learning objectives within education.

Hermeneutics is the study of interpretation theory, and can be either the art of interpretation, or the theory and practice of interpretation.
Here is what I wrote on my blog about Hermeneutics Nov 2009.

I have moved to this website, since this
will be easier for me. I will venture out
for only a little while and quickly return
to Don's group and
my personal sites (which is home).
Last night, I wonder what will be enough to
make me feel comfortable with my sewing. I only have three more must
classes to take; Lingerie, Bustier, and Jacket (if I do not figure
it out myself). I will learn everything I can with the
class/workshop/sites I am already on. Then I will call it a wash and I will be
contented with my sewing progress (I hope)!
My goal is simply, just to sew better
looking garments for myself and family. I
also like to make my drawing a reality. I
can draw a design but to put it together is
another story. My teacher said I need to
design. Ok, Don is not my teacher right now,
but in my mind he will always be my teacher.
I put our feelers for someone to teach me to
sew and I got 3 ask me anything. I think the
response is great. I called the 3 ASG for
Awesome Sewing Gurus because they are. When
my husband finishes his PhD in computer
security, I will have to
slow down anyway. He has 2 yrs left to
finish (I hope), then it is time to live a
bit (he works so hard, till it is
overwhelming). I will not fool myself that
he will not do something educational because
he is a nerd. He is a professor at a
University here. I will continue
sewing and he will continue learning.
Back to Hermeneutic. I found
this enticing, because I read the article by
Michael Weis and I saw how I can applied it
to sewing. Charles Cooper from Florida, uses
this classical version which applies to the
bible. There is another one I like but I
must read it some more to see does the basic
theory can be applied to sewing. I looked at
Paul Riceur's theory and though it seen more
practical, I ended up looking at Su Fen Wang
version of hermeneutic. Mr. Wang revised Paul
Riceur's theory into a simpler process.
Paul Riceur uses an arch or bridge in his
understanding, where Su Fen Wang uses a flow
chart of simply observation and
understanding to produce his development of
new thinking or writing. Though Michael
Weise art of science is so interesting, I
can see incorporating the three studies of
text and its meaning. Hermeneutic is the
general study of text and its meaning. Many
authors have their own interpretation of
words and its meaning.
So, I am thinking Hermeneutic of Sewing "Why
people are struggling with sewing? This is
because people have a bad hermeneutic. “A
hermen… what…” you say? Who’s Herman? No.
This is a fancy theological word that simply
means the art and science of interpreting
Sewing. It’s an Art because the more you do
it, the better you get at it and it’s a
Science because it takes time (experiences),
knowledge and guidelines". I have been
playing around with Michael Weis article, it
is going to take me awhile to rewrite it to
fit sewing. Why?; Because I have "Sew Much
To Learn". It will guide me in my sewing
adventure. You can see Michael Weis entire
article on "How to Study the Bible", then
you can see where I am heading. In this
process, I will know when I reached my goal
in sewing. I am not looking for advanced,
just a comfortable intermediate. I picked
the classic hermeneutic and Mr. Wang's new
perspectives in his pure theory paper
because I like the foundational progression.
I will take my time to write my thoughts on
this topic.
